Now that may seem obvious but it is easy to forget when your heart is going at 1000 beats per minute, your head is spinning and your stomach feels like its rejecting your body! You will be scared and other students will be scared so don’t be fooled by other peoples bravado, its just a defence mechanism! What you have to remember is to be sociable even if you feel like you want to curl up in a ball and cry. Don’t! This is the best time to make friends but don’t think that your whole reputation at University or college hinges on the first impression you make and don’t think that the friends you make in the first week will be the friends you are stuck with for the rest of the year! Freshers week is about meeting other students, lots of other students. You will like some of them and dislike others. Some people will like you and some people, people with very bad taste, will like you less. You will have to live with that. Obviously all Freshers weeks are going to be different and ordered in different ways but most will involve you arriving at a halls. The Milwaukee Schools’ District is the largest public school district in Wisconsin; it has 207 schools, 6,055 teachers, and 90,925 students. Hot topics in the district are voucher programs, Chinese Language education, and WiMAX, a free broadband internet access for all students and staff. WiMAX, an emerging wireless broadband technology, is a tool that Milwaukee School officials are hoping to install in the homes of all students and staff members. This technology can reportedly broadcast a signal for miles without needing a clear line of sight. If Milwaukee Schools are successful, they will be one of the first school systems in the nation to use this technology. The pilot program will cover approximately five square miles and is scheduled to be up and running by August 2007. Sayavong said that he wants Milwaukee Schools’ children to learn more about one of the United States’ largest trading partners. He believes this will give them an edge later in their careers. Of particular interest, a 2006 Department of Education news release stated that more than 200 million of children in China were studying English, but only around 24,000 of U. S. students were studying Chinese. One way that the Milwaukee School District is battling to educate low-income, minority students are voucher schools. However, the voucher schools look and feel surprisingly like other Milwaukee Schools. While the program has brought some “fresh energy” to the mission of educating low-income youth, about 10% of the choice (voucher) schools exhibit alarming deficiencies. There’s a lot of taxpayer money going into religiously affiliated Milwaukee Schools. About 70% of students enrolled in the voucher programs attend a religious school. The collapse of four schools and the state’s limited ability to take action against other “alarming” schools has led to some agreement for the need for increased oversight. Recently, I read a report called “The Plastic Safety Net: The Reality Behind Debt In America”. This report is all about Americans using and building up credit debt due to life emergencies and trying to keep up with standard cost of living expenses such as rent, utilities, medical care, tuition for children and even food. Furthermore it makes it seems as if people who have gotten into debt, especially low to mid income citizens, are victims and have very little control over why they have gotten into debt. It is very well researched and has a lot of eye opening truths and facts in it that I must agree with, mainly because I’ve been there and done that as far as being in credit card debt myself. To jump ahead, I will tell you my happy ending now. After being in almost $14,000.00 in credit card debt alone, at the age of thirty… I made a plain, distinct decision, that no matter what, I would pay it all off – without adding more to it and enjoy my life without ever getting into that kind of needless debt again. I paid off the entire amount in about 4 to 5 years, all on my own. It took dedication, discipline and all out self control. I now live a life where I do not use credit for anything, anymore. My whole financial philosophy has changed. I have learned the hard way, that saving the money first is far easier than getting into debt. Learning skills for saving money, plus a little determination has so many personal benefits. When a person saves money towards a worthy goal, it gets easier as time goes on and the money is actually growing by adding to it. If an unexpected emergency happens, it doesn’t hit that hard. There is some money saved, that can be used. Striving for the goal of saving a certain amount of money and becoming successful does wonders to a self-esteem level. There is control over planning a budget of how much can be saved from each paycheck. It’s very basic stuff. Now, using credit does the exact opposite. It’s a form a self-destruction because, the main thing that happens is hopelessness. Credit bills start piling up and the payments HAVE to be made every month, with interest added. There is no control then. Since it’s already bad, feeling worse by adding more to it becomes mute. It’s easy to fall into an indifferent mode. Self-esteem gets torn down because in reality, you are failing financially. Now granted, I was a young adult – on my own without a family to support. But here is my message. It fits in with why many people, no matter what circumstances or backgrounds they come from, get into this trap of credit card debt. They really think it’s easier than saving money first. It all goes back to self-indulgence and instant gratification. For many people these habits don’t start when they are in dire need of financial help when a life emergency occurs. It started way before that, when they obtained their first credit card in college, possibly. Before they got married, before they had a house, before they had children. It’s easier for young adults to use credit to obtain new things they want, right now. The habit starts with something that simple. It’s all self perpetuated and it does become a vicious cycle. I was a prime example of this cycle as a young adult, on my own. Looking back, I can easily say that if I had learned better budgeting skills and not used credit lines haphazardly in the first place, I would have been able to afford to live very well on the income I was earning, in the career of my choice. It is possible to get through emergencies without going into further debt. I had three major unexpected emergencies happen to me while paying off my debt and I did not go into further debt because of them. I used my brain, skills, resources, and further commitment to get through my unexpected emergencies. My car got stolen, after I had just paid it off. Then, I got into a car accident with my brother’s car. I was let go from a job, where I thought I was very secure. These emergencies all happened to me in the course of about 6 months of time. Because of a weird turning of the universe, these kinds of problems usually happen for most people almost all at once. As far as people paying for their children’s tuition… and yes, this is an American dream to be able to put a child through a great learning establishment and then into a good college….etc… but if a family can’t afford it, then public school is always still there. A child can be conditioned to learn they will need to become responsible enough to pay for their own college education if that is what they are striving for. Plenty of successful adults have put themselves through college, by working and staying committed to their goal. Families earning two incomes, yet paying outlandish childcare fees are fighting a losing financial battle, because they are not willing to cut costs on everyday items to make ends meet with one income of who ever is the bread winner. They are not willing to own older, yet reliable vehicles. They can’t live without cable TV or cell phones. Though they are not splurging on expensive vacations or going to high cost events all the time, they still believe there are everyday services and products they can’t live without. There are so many ways to save money on basic food items a family needs to survive, it could make your head spin, but it takes effort that many people would rather avoid. I believe this is the deep seeded truth as to why millions of Americans are suffering with major credit card debts. This mandates your IRA be distributed according to your will, if you have one. If you don't, each state has “intestate” rules that divide your estate up in ways you wouldn't ever want. An IRA with no beneficiary must be distributed within five years. By contrast, a named beneficiary can spread the distribution out over the balance of their life expectancy. Your Estate Naming your estate as the beneficiary is the same as not naming one. The rules require a “named” beneficiary. Now your IRA goes through the probate process. This costs money, takes time and subjects your IRA to your creditors. Why should you pay money to be represented by an attorney and have a judge in some probate court decide whom your beneficiary will be? Why should your beneficiaries have to wait around for your estate to be closed? What if your will is challenged? What if you have a big estate with estate taxes due and the IRS is questioning the valuation of your business? I have seen estates open for as long as ten years as the debate goes back and forth between your attorney and the IRS. The worst case I can think of is your IRA completely eaten up by legal fees inasmuch it may be the only liquid asset. Your Spouse This is the most common designation and makes the most sense for a number of reasons. If the spouse is the sole beneficiary, he or she can elect to treat the IRA as his or her own. This opens up the possibility of delaying the start of the required minimum distributions (RMDs). This could be the spouse’s age 70 1/2, or for a Roth IRA, all the way to the death of the spouse. It also allows further “stretching” of the IRA as the spouse can spread the RMDs over their lifetime plus the lifetime of a beneficiary. If the spouse is more than 10 years younger than a non-Roth IRA owner, their life expectancy can be used. Beneficiaries other than the spouse, who are more than ten years younger than the IRA owner, are treated as being no more than ten years younger for RMD purposes. This is another “stretching” advantage for naming the spouse as beneficiary. Children If children are beneficiaries, they can take the RMDs over their life expectancy. Since the RMDs are very low at the younger ages, the account can grow substantially over the years. For example, a $100,000 IRA could distribute literally millions of dollars over the lifetime of a young beneficiary. If there is more than one child named, the youngest age is used for RMD purposes. However, if the children are beneficiaries of a trust, the oldest age is used. Grandchildren Because grandchildren are even younger than children are, the lifetime income potential from RMDs would floor you. I can show you an example of the same $100,000 IRA used above as an example that would pay out 20 million dollars to a grandchild over their lifetime under the right circumstances. Well, we’re looking like geniuses based on our last report on this division. It’s still more than the traditional two-horse race, as the Red Sox and Yankees have a party-crasher still hanging on to hopes of a division title in the form of the Toronto Blue Jays. Although the standings are the same as last month, there have been more than a few twists and turns since we last visited the AL East, and it still looks like any of the top three teams could emerge as the champ come October. Boston Red Sox Currently: The Red Sox are holding on to the lead by the slimmest of margins, but they’re still on top, and that’s what matters. The Red Sox have been mediocre in the past month, posting a 15-13 record, and David Ortiz and Mike Lowell are continuing their strong seasons. Manny Ramirez is also having another Manny-like year. The team’s pitching has fallen off a bit, though, as Josh Beckett has struggled. Outlook: The Red Sox have too much talent and heart to simply fade away, and if their pitching comes back around, they’ll be there at the end. New York Yankees Currently: The Yankees have been similarly mediocre in the past month, putting together just a 15-14 record and failing to gain much ground on the Red Sox. They have also been inconsistent, as they’ve enjoyed a five-game winning streak and dealt with a four-game skid during this time. Derek Jeter and Robinson Cano are still going strong, but the Alex Rodriguez drama has been a distraction. Outlook: If Rodriguez can win back the fans by turning it around, this team could surge. Mike Mussina is still going strong, and Randy Johnson is coming around. They’ll be around all year. Toronto Blue Jays Currently: Apparently, it’s been mediocrity all around for the contenders in the AL East, as the Blue Jays have also gone 15-14 in the past month. It seems that no one is making a move these days in a division that could be had. The Blue Jays are still getting offense from Alex Rios and Vernon Wells, but their pitching outside of Roy Halladay remains suspect. Outlook: If the Blue Jays can get some pitching help either from their current roster or with a trade-deadline move, they could shock the world and win this division. Baltimore Orioles Currently: The Orioles had a disappointing month, going only 14-17. Their bats have gone cold recently, and that spells big trouble for the Orioles, who continue to struggle with pitching. Only the Royals have given up more total runs this season than the Orioles. Outlook: It’s getting late rather early in Baltimore. If they don’t turn it around soon, they’ll be planning for next year very soon. Tampa Bay Devil Rays Currently: After a somewhat promising start, the Devil Rays stumbled last month, going 13-18. The team started the month on a four-game winning streak, but lost that momentum with a six-game skid soon thereafter. The team really doesn’t have much offense, as only the Royals have scored fewer runs in the AL this season. Outlook: This is a team that needs to be viewed in the big picture. They are building a young foundation, and in a year or two could contend, but not this year.

In stroke play, the player who takes minimum number of total strokes is the winner. Professional stroke play tournaments are played for 72 holes, which is four rounds, in a normal golf course. Tiebreaker is by way of playoff. In playoffs, the game is played until one player scores lower on one hole. For a “Grand Slam” for men, a competition of four games is organized, in the order of Masters Tournament, the United States Open, the British Open and the Professional Golfers’ Association of America.
