Performance tuning is a process not a tool

MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR loses occur every day due to poor application testing plans, too much trust in automated testing tools and a general lack of the big picture. Plans are made without understanding how IT all works together. Yet more automated tools hit the market every day. The Web is alive with ads for software that will do the following: Analyze your application response time from the perspective of the User experience. End to End transparent application monitoring. Create “Load” that exactly simulates user experience. Automate application performance analysis & troubleshooting. Based on these products and their claims, you would think that the goal of IT Management is to automate all aspects of Network & Application Performance Troubleshooting. Nevertheless, here is an important question: Is that not a little like asking a chicken to guard the chicken coop? Who is monitoring the monitor tool? Is it not just another application? This goes around in circles. Humans use tools, highly skilled and experienced humans. To rely so heavily on automation to monitor other automation is to hope one potential failure catches another potential failure. Furthermore, our experience has shown that companies all too often utilize under-skilled staff for these roles, hoping that the tool will know what to do with itself or simple default configurations will apply. Is the clients address going to be set up as the physical address or mailing address. 8. Make sure all staff check spelling and if they aren’t sure always use a spellchecker. 9. Define how new profiles are going to be created and how user defined fields are allowed to be configured. This is a very important step so give it the time it deserves. 10. These days email is as important as the telephone so make sure email address are properly entered. 11. Define which fields if any are going to be mandatory. 12. Address how backups will be done and how often as well as who will be responsible for doing those backups. 13. Decide how training is going to be done and if training refreshers are going to be offered. 14. You need to decide if updates are going to be done at the three month or six month mark. How often will depend on the size of your company and if there are changes that occur regularly. Once your CRM data capture procedure checklist is in place make sure all staff members have signed off as reading it. New employees should receive a copy of the checklist when they are hired. And the procedures should be refreshed at least a couple of times a year.

An anti virus and how it saved my computer

Not too long ago I experienced a major melt down on my computer, I am afraid to say it was due to a virus. It seems the Anti-virus I had at the time was having a conflict with my laptop; as a result, a nasty virus snuck in my system and started playing around. At first, I did not realize what it was, web pages did not load correctly, and programs either would not load or would freeze when they did. I even got the dreaded Blue Screen. I like many others out there whose computers now have viruses even though they have an anti-virus program. My anti-virus and my computer had conflicts, and I did not realize what it was until it was almost too late. A friend of mine mentioned that I might have a virus; I stated to her that I had a program and it was running. It was then that I learned that not all anti-viruses catch all viruses. She recommended I do a scan on my computer. I did using my old anti-virus and it showed up clean. I was then told to run another virus remover tool, I did and low and behold, there were quite a few of the little rotten things hiding in my PC. It seems that my anti-virus had not done its job. Thankfully, though I found one that did, AVG Free Edition. Once I got rid of the viruses, my programs started working again, my Internet did not hang up, and my life on my computer returned back to normal. So why am I telling you my misfortune with Computer Viruses, simple really.
