All about fire safes
Safes provide an extra level of protection from theft or damage for important documents, computer data and other valued items for home and business owners. Fire safes are fire-resistant rather than fireproof, as they eventually succumb to the flames. Unless your home or business is far away from the nearest fire station and the fire is abnormally hot, your safe should have no problem withstanding the flames. Made of hollow sheet metal that is filled with fire-resistant insulation, fire safes are an extremely effective means of protecting your valued items. Homeowners owning firearms also need fire safes for storage purposes. Such safes not only help keep their firearms from being damaged, they also keep the guns secure in storage. Many business establishments also benefit from fire safes. This is especially true for any organisation that stores valuable archives. Most newspaper offices, for example, store their past editions on microfilm, and any damage to them would lead to a tremendous loss to the paper as well as the community. State archives buildings and museums often store the most valuable pieces in their collection in fire safes. This guide will provide you with all the information you need to decide the fire safe best suited to your needs. Primary Considerations The main questions you should ask yourself before buying a safe are: What item do I want to protect? Is it cash, documents, jewelry, or computer data? From what contingency do I want to protect those items – fire or theft? If you want protection from theft, then what is the value of the items to you in either monetary or sentimental terms? If you want protection from fire, then consider if the items are paper or plastic media. Once you have answered these questions, you will have a reasonable idea of the safe best suited to your needs. Shoppers interested in fire safes should consider type, size, and fire ratings. Fire ratings indicate how long the safe will endure a certain temperature for a certain amount of time. The higher the rating is, the more heat-resistant the safe will be. Types There are two types of fire safes: data storage and document storage. Both are effective, but offer different degrees of fire resistance. A fire safe designed to protect paper documents from fire and smoke damage keeps the internal temperature of the safe below 170 degrees centigrade. On the other hand, since computer equipment, disks, and videotapes melt at a lower temperature than paper burns, a fire data safe or media safe keeps the internal temperature below 52 degrees centigrade. Size Safes are a long-term investment; before choosing a model, it is important to have a clear idea of what you need to protect—both in the present and the future. Before making a purchase, also make sure you consider both the internal and the external dimensions. The safe should fit into its designated space, but should also have enough internal space to store your valuables. To get an idea of the minimum dimensions your safe should have, take the measurements of the largest item you will place in the safe. Purchase a safe with at least 20-25% more space than you think you will need. There are advantages and disadvantages to a large safe, however. A larger safe does not necessarily assure greater security. Although such safes cannot be removed as easily by a burglar, they cannot be removed by you in case of fire either. Quality Ratings Make sure that the safe is certified by ECB•S, which is the European standard for quality safes. The ECB•S provides a serial number on the safe, which serves as a mark of identification of the manufacturer and prevents unauthorised use. Shoppers should also ensure that the product has been manufactured under a certified quality system in accordance with ISO 9000 (EN ISO 9000). A few ECB•S certification marks for fire-resistant safes include EN-1047-1 and VDMA 24991. You can find a list of the ECB•S members at fup-gut. de/english/members_e. htm. Shopping for Safes There is a substantial number of safe manufacturers and vendors who offer quality products. Watch out for vendors selling used safes, however, as older safes might not be of the same quality as new safes. Ask vendors whether they offer any sort of warranty, in case your safe is damaged in anyway. If the size of your safe is particularly large, then ask the vendor if it can be delivered and installed in the house for you. Installing the Safe in the House Fire-resistant safes can be stored anywhere as they are built to resist fire under virtually all circumstances. Concrete does, however, offer an extra layer of protection; place your safe within concrete if you can. If you have a large safe, ensure that you position it in a place that can support its weight.
Strengthen your business know why those clients leave
Copyright 2006 Kelly Robbins We all have clients that love us. And I mean loooooooove us. These are our favorite clients that we like to think about all the time. Clients like these are the reason we are in business and the reason we love our business so much. Unfortunately, not all our clients are like this. We also have clients that, after a period of time, leave us and don't continue using our services. We know that in business this is not unusual. Client attrition is a normal part of a healthy business. Clients get better, move forward, change their minds. However, as a business owner, it's important you know WHY these people are leaving. I am going to call these clients "inactive clients". Why are they not coming back? Are they using your competitors? A company online? Did you alleviate a pain they were experiencing - basically you did your job - and they have no reason to see you anymore? Was there something that upset them or made them uncomfortable that they didn't want to come back? What? This isn't fun? Don't stick your head in the sand! You need to know this stuff. While it's important to acknowledge that all clients don't stay forever, you need to put a system in place to find out why. You may not have ever thought about this before - why you lose clients. Maybe you've thought about it and didn’t know what to do. Maybe you are afraid to know, or don't want to know. It's a touchy subject. What if they just didn't like you? The only way to find out why a client has become inactive is to ask them. I understand this can be uncomfortable, but you need to find out. And the best way to do that is to ask. And this is something that needs to be done on a regular basis. Systems need to be put in place so that when clients do become inactive (and you need to determine when that is) you make a phone call and find out what's going on. A less preferable option is to have your assistant call. Saying something as easy as "hey, we haven't seen you in a while and we’ve missed you. Is there anything going on? I noticed we haven't seen you in a few weeks. Is there something I can do to entice you to come visit us again?" Be friendly and welcoming, but truly inquisitive as well. You may find there's something going on in your business that needs your attention. You may also find that a client is experiencing some sort of hardship you otherwise wouldn't have known about. When you call to check on an inactive client you are doing several things. You are showing them you care You are telling them they matter and you noticed their absence You are checking on the quality of your business. Both its processes and your employees. You are being a caring friend and checking on the welfare of another. Do it. You're business will run better because of it.

What one thing
A few weeks ago I asked my readers what the most important issue was in their business. Hundreds responded with a variety of answers, but one of the most common was, "How do I get everything that needs doing done?" Happily, I have an answer for this question, but like many things in life, it carries both good news and bad news. The good news is, if you are one of those fortunate few with access to unlimited resources, you can get everything done. But that's really the bad news, isn't it. Because among all the people I know - not a single one of them - not one - has access to unlimited resources. Even executives I work with whose budgets run into the hundreds of millions - even they do not have unlimited resources. Even they have to make choices and trade-offs. Earl Nightingale once asked the question, "What one thing would you do if you knew you could not fail?" And Jack Palance's Curly in City Slickers, asked a similar question: "What is the one thing?" Their questions contains seeds of the answer to this quandary. Because all things on your plate are not created equal. They are not all important. They do not all have the same impact, the same dependencies, the same possibility of reward. And even if you think they do, upon close examination you'll find they do not. The trick of course, is to figure out the one thing that matters most... Right now... And focus on that. Of all the ideas I have sifted through in my role as an executive coach and business coach among the most relevant is the concept of sacrifice. My definition is giving up something of value for something of even greater value. Sacrifice is the key. You have to let go of your attachment to most things on your plate, and figure out what things are of greatest value. You don't get everything done, and you can't get everything important done. If you select well, and are willing to sacrifice the rest, you can get the most important things done. By letting go of the rest, everything essential, everything vital, everything earth-shattering can be done. Can you imagine what life would be like if you only worked on things that were earth-shattering? While this seems simple, obvious even, most of us have struggled with it all our lives. You probably have trouble figuring out, from day to day, what is going to make the greatest difference. I'd be willing to bet that if you take a look, you probably can't even figure out what the criteria are. So let's go back to Earl Nightingale's question: What one thing would do if you knew you could not fail? Look at the things on your to-do list this way: What will have the biggest impact? What will yield the greatest revenues and profits? What will open the doors to the future you desire? What has the strongest possibility of success? What has the largest reward to risk ratio? What will give you the finest return on your investment? What will free up the most time? What will free up the most resources? What will help you realize your success strategy? And, what will bring you closest to your goals? If you can first figure out which among these questions are most relevant for you, and answer them for all your projects, you can rank the things on your plate according to what matters most and is absolutely essential. And once you do that, you can figure out which among all the various tasks you have should - no, must - get your attention. THOSE ARE THE ONLY ONES YOU WORK ON. Get those done, and if you have time left over, turn your attention to the next batch. I call it strategic focus. Figuring out what's really going to rock your world. Figuring out what is really going to deliver the goods. And working on those things. Only those things. The rest of it will simply have to wait. Maybe forever. If you can wrap your mind around this one simple idea, figuring out what to do next becomes pretty easy. And because you are focusing your energies on few things instead of many, things get done. Label printers choose materials wisely
Not all labels are created equal. Labels can be made from a variety of materials and can feature any one of many different adhesives. Professional label printers understand how to select the right materials for any labeling need. How do label printers decide what kind of materials to use? Let us look at a few of the factors experts can consider when choosing labeling materials. Label printers will be interested in the item to which the label will be affixed. That is because different adhesives are more suited to some textures and materials than are others. Good label printers know the differences and can make a better decision based on that information. They will also make choices based on the desired duration of adhesion. Temporary labels are not constructed with the same materials as critical permanent warning labels, for instance. Top label printers will ask the right questions to make sure they build the perfect label to meet the customer’s needs. The conditions under which the label will be applied and the subsequent conditions to which the label will be exposed are also important considerations for label printers. If one is applying a label in below-freezing conditions or if the label will eventually be subject to such an environment, certain materials and adhesives are recommended. If the label will be exposed to liquids or extreme heat, a different plan may be necessary. Factors such as these allow label printers to make wise decisions regarding the labels they produce. They can custom-create the perfect label for any particular situation. To you or me, labels may seem to be almost universally similar. Professional label printers, however, know better.
The container streamlines freight movement and can become offices shops and houses
: We mean the shipping container here, not beer kit container. The 20 feet shipping container, 20'x8'x8.5' in size, can accommodate a mobile dwelling unit, with beds and furniture that fold into the wall, for example. Shipping containers come mostly in the standard sizes of 20 feet, 40 feet and 45 feet high-cube (the last with a height of 9.5'). If desired, containers can be customized in various ways, by constructing containers of a different dimension, or converting them into, say, houses. Containerization Containerization facilitates inter-modal freight transport, i. e., container ships, railroad cars, and trucks can all accommodate standard sized containers. There are also standard containers for use in aircraft. So you can transport a container from the interiors by truck or railroad to a sea or air port, and send them to a distant location where the transport process is reversed, say, from ship to truck. Specialized container handling equipment can easily transfer the containers from the one mode to another. Streamlining of freight transport operations lowers costs, and leads to lower freight charges and increased trade. It was in the 20th century that standardization of container sizes and container-handling equipment gained momentum and appeared as an important innovation in logistics. Initially standardized with 8'x8' cross-sections and multiples of 10' lengths, containers became increasingly popular starting 1950s. Purpose-built container ships and railcars gave momentum to container-based freight operations. The containers were transported unopened from origin to destination, being transferred from one kind of transport vehicle to another as needed. Containers could thus travel across sea, land and air with practically no disruption. The cargo could be tightly packed into the containers with minimum wastage of space. This was in contrast to the significant storage space wastage (not to mention time wastage) that would be involved if the cargo as such were moved individually to, and stored in, the cargo holds of standard ships. Standardization of containers involved not only their dimensions, but also corner fittings, reinforcements and identification markings. Standard pallets that fit neatly into the containers were used to pack merchandise. Container capacity is expressed in TEUs or twenty-foot equivalent units. These standards have now been accepted worldwide. Containers used for air transport have a different set of dimensional standards that are much smaller in length, width and height. Containers come in many types. There are 'dry van' containers for boxes, bales, pallets, drums, etc, 'reefer' containers that are temperature controlled from -25 degrees to +25 degrees centigrade, bulk containers for bulk materials and heavy machinery, tank containers for liquids, and other kinds of specials including those with rolling floors for difficult-to-handle cargo. Container Related Issues Containers enhance security as the contents are not visible and the doors are sealed in a manner to detect any tampering. Cargo did not "fall off" the trucks as was common in earlier days. On the other hand, the fact that containers are not typically opened meant that they could be used to transport contraband. The increased efficiency of container based cargo handling typically leads to job losses, and moving work to inland from waterfronts. Where two-way cargo movement is not balanced, empty containers can accumulate at certain places and transporting the bulky empty containers is often not cost effective. To handle this issue, containers are often converted to other uses.

3 Ways to create a steady cash stream while you work from home
Working from home was once merely a dream for most people. Until the onslaught of the Internet and home PCs, it simply wasn't feasible for companies to hire employees to work from home. And starting a small business took special know-how, a large initial investment, and a lot of advertising and marketing. But now, working from home is a reality for thousands of people, and you too can realize this dream. The first goal for your home business should be to find ways to create steady cash flow. You'll need cash flow to operate and promote your home business, and to secure a lucrative income for yourself. There are many different ways to create a cash stream for your home business. Here are three ideas to get you started. 1. Buy a Pre-Existing Profitable Business One way to create an immediate cash flow is to buy a pre-existing home business that is already making a profit. Of course, you will not enjoy a profit immediately because you must invest initially. But once you are able to recover from the initial investment, you can continue receiving profits year after year. The key benefit of buying a pre-existing work-from-home business is you will gain knowledge from the previous owner about what works for the business and what doesn't work. The main disadvantage is you will have to follow in the footsteps of another instead of building your own home business from the ground up. There's a great sense of pride when you can truly call a business "your own!" 2. Follow a Profitable Business Model Another way to create a cash stream for your work-from-home business is to follow the profitable business model of another. You can learn a lot from others who have already been successful with a home business. Many long-time entrepreneurs are creating e-books and global networks to help new home business owners become a success. They are revealing little-known secrets about work-from-home businesses that would likely take you years to discover on your own. Look for entrepreneurs who have owned work-from-home businesses in a field that interests you. Use their ideas and examples to create a profitable business model for your new home business. 3. Internet and Network Marketing A third way to create a cash stream of income is to utilize the Internet and network marketing to your advantage. Find and join a team of individuals who have similar goals and work with them to build a successful online business. With the Internet and network marketing, many are realizing their financial goals faster than they ever imagined. Network marketing online can be accomplished through email and a website while working from home, and it can bring more people together with similar goals in a very short period of time. Many global network companies will promote your online business for you and take every initiative to help you become a success. There are even global resorts networks that enable you to travel to exotic places while earning a substantial income. Whatever method you choose to create a cash stream as you work from home, set some goals for your business and start realizing your dreams today!

Newsletter s unseen worth
Maybe you are contemplating of a barrage of advertisements on television, billboards, magazines and practically everywhere. Nonetheless, the solution can be as simple as publishing newsletters. It may sound a little awkward to you. But the blatant fact is that businessmen and marketing people underestimate the persuasive power of newsletters. Some are thinking that only few people are interested in newsletters. They are just pieces of paper clump together – nothing more! Hence, to pursue marketing through them is just a waste of our time and resources. People are more likely to read news than ads. In fact, they care less about ads. For them they are bunches of puffing. Thus, they settle on something that can be useful in their every day living like news and current events. Another, they do not care much about advertisements. In fact, as to them, they are just pieces of entertainment if not crap. In addition, they may not have the time to take a glance at your promotions and advertisements. They simply are preoccupied by lots of things and to expect more from them may not be a good idea unless you think of something that can divert their limited attention to your products and services. This is where the worth of newsletters comes in. Contrasting mentalities between the marketers and potential customers make it difficult to purge an optimistic goal. To circumvent the contrast, marketers must adjust. Newsletters can be had as a powerful marketing tool. Savvy businessmen use them to slash advertising expenses and to secure that the business information will not be simply overlooked. How are you supposed to do the promotion? First things first, discern your target market’s interests. Through them, you can tickle their fancies and make them read more. Write something about their favorite topics. From there you can lead them to reading your ads. In a creative manner, you can correlate your products and services. Little pitch of promotion will not cause any harm. Bear in mind that the formula for newsletter readership is 90-95% content and 10-5% ads. That way, you will not appear annoying to the readers. Choose a reputable newsletter printing company to take care of your newsletters. Secure expert printing services to be sure of the quality of your newsletters. Then, wait for your business lifeline to improve.
